Europa rises again
July 9, 2026
After lying dormant for two decades, Europa has been revived in its original
1997–2000 form as a museum piece. The long-lost top.inc was reconstructed from
memory and surviving artifacts. Some dynamic features (caller ID log,
phonebook) depended on software that no longer exists and remain offline.
New Domain Name
November 4, 2000
Due to the unreliable nature of the previous domain name service, europa
has picked a new service provider. The server will now accessible at
europa.tzo.com. This change should not affect the regular operation of
europa.
CallerID meets the web
April 18, 2000
In a dazzling display of software engineering, the sysadmin of europa has
created a program that enables people to view their caller ID logs through
a web page. This was accomplished with the application of a useless old
modem, mySQL database and some clever C coding. The software will be
available for download
soon.
Phonebook ready
April 8, 2000
Through the miracle of PHP and mySQL, users with a shell account on europa
can now access their phonebook online. Simply click 'phonebook' in the
menu to begin.
Europa gets new software
March 30, 2000
PHP and mySQL were added today to Europa's software arsenal. PHP will
make
webpages like this one easier to maintain while mySQL provides a solid
backend to store data. The installation process was not easy and required
lengthy configuration and compile sessions. The system administrator
recommends visiting this site
before beginning installation of either software in order to prevent
hair-loss.
Server shuts down
March 28, 2000
A water leak on the first floor today caused main power supply to Europa
to be cut-off for a few hours. The problem was fixed minutes after this
was discovered. The server is back to its normal operations. There was
no damage to data. The system administrator is now accepting free
donations of uninterrupted power supply!
